1974 Dodge Challenger Rallye

Complete matching numbers.  Scheduled build date 12/10/1973.  High quality nut and bolt factory correct restoration.  1,000's of hours have been spent stripping everything down to bare metal and transforming this car back to the way it left the factory in 1974.  The overall fit of the panels, trim, and gaps are better than factory.  The straightness of the panels shows the extreme care and attention to detail used throughout the entire restoration process.

The closer you look, the better it gets, even from the bottom looking up.

The body is finished in Dupont ChromaBase/ChromaPremier Clear, color code KG8 Deep Sherwood Metallic which is the original color of the car.  The clear finish aimed to mimic the best possible factory buffed finish.  New black vinyl top with the right grain pattern and correct seam spacing for 1974. The trim has been re-done or replaced with new or NOS trim where applicable. The correct colors are in the correct places with the correct textures on the interior, exterior, trunk area, and underhood.

The front seats have new covers professionally installed, while the rear seat is still original.  The carpet is new and all the interior plastic has been re-dyed to the correct green color.  New softseal weather stripping is installed everywhere.  All new lock rod clips have been installed and all latches and windows were serviced while apart.  This is much, much, more than just a "good looking surface" restoration.

Underhood is detailed to the "T."  The correct air cleaner (oval port,) heater hose, fasteners, carb, exhaust manifolds, colors, ribbed hose, inspection tags, stickers....etc.etc.etc all in the right place.  The motor showed compression above 160 in every cyl while out of the car so the heads were not removed.  Other than that all the gaskets are new.  The car has an upgraded camshaft installed with new lifters, new cam bearings, all new freeze plugs, new timing chain and gears, new clutch and throwout bearing, and the flywheel has been turned.  It runs, drives, and shifts very well.  New BFG Rubber all around on 14x6 Rally rims.  Features factory correct bumpettes and 5mph filler panes.

1 of 75 built (closest approximate available)

1974 was the last and lowest production year for the 1st generation Challenger with only 16,437 total built (Source: Govier.)  The optional 360 w/ a 4spd was a very low production combination in 1974.  When you take into account the 360 v8 (L Code on VIN, E58 on tag,) coupled with the Pistol Grip 4spd transmission (D21 on tag,) added to the A57 Challenger Rallye package (HD Suspension, 8 3/4 rear end, sure-grip,) topped off with the A36 Performance Axle Package (3.55 gear ratio and other goodies) you get a sense of just how highly optioned and rare this car is; and its not because of something trivial like a specific color, or radio delete.  This car was ordered with all the go-fast performance goodies offered in 1974 on the Challenger platform.  Real L code 360, 4spd, Rallye package cars do not come up for sale often, especially not in this high quality correct condition.

A clear MA Title goes with the car and backs up the 60k actual miles recorded on the odometer.  A complete fender tag option code breakdown is available for the new owner as well as several hundred photos documenting the restoration.

This is a truly excellent example of one of the rarest matching numbers Challengers built and the last of the first generation Dodge Challenger. I am proud to say that is was restored right here at Klassic Klunkers.
